Words we all need to know | Learn English With The Bible

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:
“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength,
Isaiah 30:15a

Repentance:   /rɪˈpen.təns/

Repentance is the guilt you feel when you do something wrong — and the steps you take to make up for it, like a sincere apology: repentance for hurting your friend's feelings.

  • Repentance is the act of repenting, which comes from the Latin word poenitire, meaning “make sorry.” Note however, that repentance is what you do on your own: it's not punishment that is handed to you.

The fact of showing that you are very sorry for something bad you have done in the past, and wish that you had not done it:

  • This was an extremely violent crime, for which the boy showed no repentance.
  • Her passionate repentance for her sins is real.
  • He preached repentance and forgiveness.
  • They expressed repentance for their actions.

Quietness: state of peace and quiet

Synonyms: quietude, tranquility, tranquillity
Types:ataraxis, heartsease, peace,

The quality of making very little noise:
  • This luxury car offers comfort, quietness, and speed.
  • I enjoyed the quietness of the early morning.

The quality of having little activity or excitement and few people:

  • We were struck by the quietness of the town on Sunday.

The quality of not talking very much:

I liked her smile and her gentle quietness.

Strength:

Strength is the property of being physically strong (you can do, say, 100 push-ups) or mentally strong (you can calculate percentages in your head while people are shouting at you).

Facts we need to know :
Strength has several shades of meaning. The strength of something can be the measure of how much force or pressure it can withstand over time (like a flood wall). Or its potency (like a pesticide). Or its intensity level (like a radio signal). Its fighting capabilities (like an army). Or its specialty: A chameleon's strength is actually in its ability to blend in with its surroundings.

  • The ability to do things that need a lot of physical or mental effort:
  • She had the strength and stamina to take the lead and win the gold medal.

Admitting you've made a mistake is a sign of strength, not weakness.

  • He showed great strength of character when he refused to accept the bribes.
  • We will struggle on, drawing our strength from the courage of others.
  • Much of the country's military strength lies in its missile force.
